The Story Behind Merci Dupré: Fashion With a Greater Purpose

Put them together, and you get MERCI DUPRÉ.

The name of my clothing brand comes directly from the names of my four children, and there could not be a more fitting beginning to its story. They have been the inspiration behind so much of what I have created and the reason I continue to think about what we can do differently for the generations that come after us.

Merci Dupré began with that mindset.

Looking at Clothing Differently

My career in science has taught me to question things we often accept without thinking about them.

We consider what we eat. We think about what we put on our skin. We pay attention to our homes, our environment, and the products we use.

But what about the clothing that touches our bodies for hours every day?

That question fascinated me.

I began looking at fashion through the same lens I bring to my scientific work: What could we do differently? What could we improve? And what possibilities haven't we explored yet?

Merci Dupré became a place where I could pursue those questions while also embracing something else I have always loved—fashion.

Where Innovation Becomes Wearable

I never wanted Merci Dupré to simply be another clothing line.

My vision was to explore how fashion could become part of a much larger conversation surrounding our environment, sustainability, innovation, and the choices we make every day.

That thinking has influenced the development of our garments and the science and technology surrounding Enviremware™.

For me, this is what makes the brand exciting. It allows two areas of my life that might seem completely unrelated—science and fashion—to inform one another.

Science asks us to explore what is possible.

Fashion gives us a way to express it.

Style Still Matters

Purpose and innovation should never mean giving up beauty.

I love fashion because it is creative, expressive, and personal. The right piece can completely change the way we carry ourselves.

Merci Dupré is meant to celebrate that.

I want women to put something on because they genuinely love how it looks and how it makes them feel. The story and innovation behind the garment should add another dimension to that experience—not replace it.

That balance between beauty, function, innovation, and intention continues to shape the brand as it evolves.

A Brand That Will Always Be Personal

There have been many exciting moments in the Merci Dupré journey, from designing and developing pieces to seeing collections come to life on the runway.

But underneath all of it is something much simpler.

Family.

Merritt. Crider. Duquesne. Preston.

Their names are literally woven into the identity of Merci Dupré, but their influence goes much deeper than the name.

They remind me why I care about creating things with purpose. They remind me to think beyond today. And they remind me that innovation is most meaningful when there is a human reason behind it.

Merci Dupré is fashion, but it is also an extension of so many things I care about: family, science, creativity, wellness, sustainability, and leaving something meaningful for the next generation.

And perhaps my favorite part of the entire story is that its purpose can be traced right back to its name.
